Sequences Secret Revealed (pt 5)
Part 5, screenplay sequences… Let’s do it.
Sequence E – Jane gets together with Kevin but then leaves him
I
Jane enters Tess’s apartment and sees the kid cleaning.
At work, Kevin’s boss asks to see the story.
At a store, Jane buys presents for the wedding. Kevin says he can’t believe she’s buying all this stuff—it’s all crap that the wedding industry wants us to buy. He says he thinks she wants a wedding not a marriage.
At work, Kevin’s boss says his piece is really good. She says she’s running it Sunday but now he wants her to hold it. He asks for a week longer and she agrees.
Jane meets George at a restaurant to help with the menu.
Kevin calls Tess and asks where Jane is.
Meanwhile, Jane wants to tell George something but doesn’t. Kevin sees them together and comes over. Kevin insists on driving her back.
II
As she drives, in a storm, Kevin tells her that he knows she loves George. They argue and he asks her to slow down. They nearly crash. They’re stuck in the mud.
Jane and Kevin arrive in a bar and ask to use the phone. He orders a drink.
Later, they’re still drinking and talking about her love of his column but he says he’s faking it.
Later still, he says his favorite moment is when he looks at the groom instead of the bride—her favorite moment also. He starts singing along to the song and she joins in. They dance on the bar and everyone cheers them on. Then they kiss…
In the car, they kiss passionately. (cinderella moment) (the moment when all seems to be looking up for the protagonist, but there’s something bad just around the corner…)
III
The next morning, he wakes her up. She says she never does this normally.
At a diner, a guy comes over to them and congratulates them on the karaoke. Then the waitress brings over the paper with Kevin’s article in it. Outside, she slaps him. (midpoint failure) (at the midpoint Jane and Kevin grew closer, but now it’s all up in smoke—a definite failure)
