Sequences Secret Revealed (pt 6)
Welcome to the next part of our breakdown of screenplay sequences!
Sequence F – Jane foils Tess’s wedding
I
At work, Kevin moans at his boss for running the story.
Jane arrives home and Tess shouts at her about the article. Kevin calls and she shouts at him. George calls Jane into his office and asks if she’s okay.
Tess tells Jane she’s forgiven her. Tess tries on a dress—parts of their mom’s dress. Jane can’t believe it and storms out. She says Tess needs to tell George the truth, or she will.

At Tess’s wedding party, Jane meets Susan and downs a drink before going over to George and Tess and makes her sister nervous about what she’s going to say.
Jane starts her speech and a slideshow. George’s pictures are all great and hers are the complete opposite. Susan gets Jane off the stage. The kid makes a speech and says Tess has got him as a cleaner. George gets up and she follows him out. Jane tells Susan he needed to know the truth. Susan says it wasn’t the right thing to do and Tess says the wedding’s off. (all is lost) (the end of the sequence reaches a climax with Jane foiling the wedding. This is a classic end of Act Two resolution. Jane has lost Kevin and her relationship with Tess is in serious jeopardy, meaning she is even worse off at this point than when the film started.)
III
Outside, Kevin catches up with Jane. He tries to apologize and he says she deserves more than what she settles for. She deserves to be taken care of. He gives her a phone so she doesn’t need the big diary, and leaves.
Montage: Jane arrives home. Kevin thinks. His boss tells him the story went well. (another montage brings the sequence to an end.)
