Sequences Secret Revealed (pt 7)
Sequence G – Jane gets back together with Kevin
I
At their dad’s store, Jane apologizes to Tess. They fight and Tess says she was just jealous. Tess admits she got dumped and fired and she was just trying to be Jane to impress George. Tess says she doesn’t need taking care of.
At home, Jane destroys all her dresses. She bags them up. She answers the phone and closes the cupboard doors, happy.
Jane apologizes to George and they agree to forget the whole thing. He says he can always count on her and she quits. She explains that she got too comfortable at work and that she loved him and he kisses her. But neither of them feels a thing. Her new phone rings and she leaves. (light-bulb moment) (this is the moment when the protagonist realizes the error of their ways and the stage is set for the ubiquitous “rush to the airport” scene. Or in this case, to the boat.)
II
Jane asks some guys at Kevin’s work where Kevin is. (sprint) (the chase is on…)
She gets in a cab, with the same driver. She jumps out and rushes to a wedding on a boat.
She leaps on just before the bridge goes up. A woman recognizes her from the article. (public display of affection) (the moment in romantic comedies when the protagonist does something extraordinary to show their sincerity towards the love interest. Think Bridget Jones running half naked in the snow after Mark, or Ruben eating nuts that have fallen on the street to impress Polly, in Along Came Polly.)
She takes to the mike and tells Kevin that he’s nothing like the man she imagined and that she’s fallen in love with him. He meets her and they kiss. (climax) (Act Three ends with the mandatory kiss and reunion.)
III
Super: One Year Later.
On a beach, Kevin’s friend asks out Susan. George meets Tess who’s the maid-of-honour.
Jane gets married and in voice over says everything was perfect and he was looking at her the way she hoped. They are married. 27 women wear the dresses she nearly threw out. Jane and Kevin kiss. (denouement)
